When I became an empty nester some of my friends had not reached this milestone yet. My friends that were not at that stage in their life must have thought I was really really old. But the joke was on them - since now most if not all are empty nesters too!
Some of my friends though had already been empty nesting for awhile and guess what - they were still fully functioning adults!! Unless they had me fooled. Which is entirely possible, I tend to be gullible.
Funny example: When Brad and I went to our first pediatrician's apt with Lane, the doctor asked us our height and Brad said he was 5'8". I was hormonal and in love so I did not question him then. Later when I asked him why he lied to the doctor he said "why not"??!! He said in boots, he is 5'8". Welcome to my life :)
But I digress, Empty Nesting is not something you necessarily prepare for like pregnancy or a final exam. It kind of just happens like when you realize you have no chocolate in the house and you need chocolate!!! Anyway, we were so busy going to basketball games, birthday parties, karate, and piano that all of sudden before we knew it we were going to graduation ceremonies and weddings. As always the days go by slow but the years fly by.
Tears aside: I can honestly say that Brad and I are having the time of our lives. At least 95% of the time. That's more than most baseball players hit the ball when they come to the plate. So no complaints 95% of the time that is.
But there is truly no way I could have gotten to my happy place with out the support of all my friends. If I could sing I would but since I can't I won't.
Karen trivia: I was one of three kids who did not make the 4th grade chorus of 120 kids. It still stings. I digress again.
So I honor my friends this Mother Day by not singing but wishing them all a very Happy Mother's Day. I definitely get by with a little (a lot) of help from my friends!!
