So its been a moment or two (or even three if you are counting) .......
Brad and I have had a year and are ready to put 2024 in the rear view mirror (more about that later.) But first, we have something(s) to share that pushed the limits of our comfort zone.
SHORT STORY. Brad was a balloon handler in the 2024 Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade.
So many questions, I know. This was his shining moment, his 5 minutes of fame. Even thought this was not something Brad ever thought he would be doing but when the opportunity presented he jumped at it.
Brad was diagnosed with cancer in January 2024. But as of November 6, 2024 he is officially a proud Cancer Survivor. It was a year we both never thought would be thrust upon us as nobody does but Brad took this disease head on and took it one day at a time. He was so inspiring to all, especially me.
When he decided to be in the Parade he had not even had surgery or radiation yet. Having this as his goal made the parade even more special.
Since I am all about the brain now (please check out KAREN L. HACKER), I knew that this experience would be a huge brain boost for Brad. Brad would be pushing the boundaries of his comfort zone, both physically and mentally, which allowed his brain to have new experiences form new synapses (connections) for his cognition level now and in the future.
The parade was just the beginning of Emptynestersfinally journey to optimize our cognition. We want to be at our optimal level, cognitively and physically for our grandchildren, great grandchildren and even great, great grandchildren (fingers crossed.)
Brain Buzz Take Aways:
When an incredible opportunity presents itself say "Yes" even if it makes you slightly uncomfortable. Remember everything new is uncomfortable till its not.
Also Brad (if he gets asked back) plans on participating in the parade forever. Take a Risk in 2025. Learn something new, take up a instrument, volunteer, take care of your brain with lifestyle modifications and contact us for help along the way.
Happy EmptyNesting!
